with local guide on market dayOn this tour we cross the border back into France and take a very pretty coastal road stopping in an old French village.

3 Days off in Resort to enjoy the hotel and the local area.

Day to the Pyrenees visiting Villefranche de Conflent and a scenic drive to Mont Louis. It is customary to say that Villefranche is a very pretty town, and admittedly, it’s true. Located in a narrow Valley City was built inside the heavy walls that make the lap, walls perfectly preserved and maintained. St James Church which runs alongside the main square is also well maintained. There are two long streets connected by some rare transversal alleys. The houses are very nice for the most part, there are many architectural details that give the whole a stamp of authenticity. The absence of cars in the city is involved in a feeling of fullness (the streets are very narrow, cars are which if necessary) Much of the houses has been transformed into shops, it is a feature of Villefranche. There are many shops of souvenirs, fabrics, and pottery. See in particular the Potter near the door to Spain, he has a great space and makes the objects before you. Villefranche is also known for its witches (the burriac, which are pronounced “Broutchess”).

At an altitude of 1600 m, at the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees, and at the crossroads of Conflent, Capcir and Cerdanya, the town of Mont-Louis, founded in the 17th century in response to the order of King Louis to secure the area after the Treaty of the Pyrenees was signed in 1659, is the highest walled town in France! Built by Vauban, from 1679 to 1681, this ancient stronghold can also pride itself in being included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list, because of Vauban’s fortifications. Take a stroll and see the Porte de France, the ramparts, the Church of St Louis and the solar furnace dating from 1949.

Optional

Boat trip to a pretty fishing village.

Scenic guided tour to Palamós then on to Tamariu and Calella Palafrugell
Palamós is one of the best-preserved fishing villages, famous for its prawns, you’ll find anywhere on the Costa Brava. With white sand beaches, hidden coves, and numerous relics of the area’s Catalan and Roman past, there’s much to draw visitors to the town. Surprisingly then, Palamós retains much of the traditional, small-town vibe that’s already lost to other “resort towns” just a little further along the coast

Tamariu ranks as one of the best beaches on the Costa Brava. Embraced by pine clad headlands, the horse shoe shaped beach is very pretty, family friendly and sheltered. Just behind the beach is the pedestrian promenade, where there are some cafes, restaurants and beach gear shops. Parents can happily while away a little time in the shade, sipping whatever they fancy, with their children, only yards away from them, play safely on the sand. It probably won’t be the first time you’ve heard of it, in this neck of the woods, but Tamariu was originally a small fishing village.

Calella de Palafrugell is an attractive resort, well known for its various rocky coves, sandy beaches and excellent fish restaurants.
